The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) with the participation and support of researchers, activists and leadership from a broad spectrum of civil society organizations representing millions of Canadians has been putting together the Alternative Federal Budget (AFB) since 1994. The Centre for Community Study has been involved with the AFB as it relates to cities and federal urban policy.

As part of the ongoing Hamilton Media Project, the CCS, working with the City of Hamilton, appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage during their review of the Mandate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The arguments presented by the CCS and the City featured prominently in the final report of the Heritage Committee.
